Tower of London

This amazing building alone tells so much of the story of London.  The White tower, the tallest tower within the fortress was constructed under the rule of William the Conqueror in 1078, but within the walls of the complex are Roman walls from 800 years earlier.

Over the course of its existence, various other rulers have added many other towers and turrets, and the building has served many purposes. Despite having been the home of monarchs, its enduring is as a place of torture and execution.

Guy Fawkes was racked into confessing his plot to blow up the house of Lords in 1605, and Henry the Eighth had two of his wives beheaded at the tower. It has also been home to many animals, such as lions, tiger, monkeys, even a polar bear lived here, fishing in the Thames in the 1200’s!

These days, it is where the crown jewels are kept, and is certainly one of London’s most intriguing places to visit.

Big Ben

As ambassadors of London, it is our duty to inform you that ‘Big Ben’ is actually the name of the bell inside this mighty, impressive tower.
